EPGDM PROGRAMME

What is the overall focus of the EPGDM Programme?

Students learn to meet management and leadership challenges related to a broad range of disciplines and industries. The first courses in curriculum emphasize basic building blocks of management, the later focus on integrative, cross –functional analyses and strategic decision making. The programme uses interactive lectures, case studies, students’ team learning and presentations, guest lectures.

How does the TAPMI-EPGDM programme differ from other executive development programme?

What is the status of TAMPI in management education in India. Is TAPMI accredited?

TAPMI is twenty five years’ old institution with a national standing among the first best 15 business schools in India. TAPMI has been offering its two year flagship full time residential PGPM in Manipal. TAPMI has been offering a 2-year part-time Executive PG Diploma in Management (EPGDM) since 1997. Started as only a week-end programme, it has now both week-end and week day batches.

TAPMI is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). TAPMI has recently sought approval for the EPGDM programme from AICTE as per its latest guidelines for diploma and certificate programmes in executive
Education.

What is the rigor of the EPGDM Programme?

The EPGDM programme aims at providing individuals, who have already shown potential in their professional life, with knowledge, skills and tools to develop their capabilities for future success in the fast changing local and international environment.

The structure and contents of the EPGDM are very similar to that of the full-time two year PGDM offered by TAPMI, Manipal. EPGDM is essentially an Executive MBA programme requiring 100 credit hours with a total class room learning of 1000 hours.

What is the difference between an MBA degree of a university and the PGDM offered by other management institutes?

Universities and University- affiliated colleges come under the UGC and are authorized by an Act to award an MBA degree. TAPMI is an autonomous and non-grant institute under the AICTE. Autonomous institutes enjoy freedom in all aspects of curriculum design and management. Such Institutes award a diploma to all who meet the academic requirements set for graduation. Institutions like IIMs fall under this category.

Are career and placement services available to EPGDM?

No placement services are offered to the EPGDM students. This is for the reason that many companies sponsor students for the programme and we would like to avoid any conflict with these companies. However, faculty provide career counseling to interested students

How diverse are the students in the programme?

Diversity is the key feature of in an EPGDM classroom. A diverse mix of experience, functional expertise, education, and industry representation among classmate ensures a rich and stimulating classroom experience.

How much professional experience do the typical EPGDM Students have?

TAPMI-CEE students have an average of eight years of work experience, in entry level supervisory management and or middle management levels. For consideration of admission to the programme, the applicant must have a minimum of two-three years work experience. We also receive applications from individuals from family owned business who are considered case by case basis for admission.

How many students are enrolled in the programme?

The maximum batch size is 60. Generally, the batch size for the week day (Monday- Thursday) option tends to be lower than the week-end (Friday- Sunday) option.

CURRICULUM

Which faculty teach the EPGDM Programme?

Faculty are selected primarily from the senior faculty of TAPMI, Manipal, full time faculty at TAPMI-CEE and distinguished practitioners from industry and business .Faculty bring in real life situations and problems to the class for review, discussion and decision making. In addition to direct course faculty, top managers of the industry visit the Institute as Guest.

What teaching methods are used?

A wide variety of teaching methods appropriate and tailored to executive education and subject matter of the particular courses are employed. These include lectures, case analysis and discussion, problem- set discussions, experiential exercises, projects, management games, group and individual presentations.

Does the institute offer advanced courses in areas other than indicated in the programme brochure?

Being autonomous, TAPMI is flexible to meet the emerging needs of the executive learners. Students may propose new course requirements from time to time. We will organize new courses based on the popular demand and also the number registered for such courses.

ADMISSIONS

How competitive is admission to the programme?

Candidates are assessed individually; all application documents are considered, with particular attention paid to the candidate’s academic ability and professional background. Candidates may choose to meet with our admission counselor for an early assessment and prequalification for admission to the programme.

Is it compulsory that I take TAPMI admission entrance test? What about my CAT OR MAT test scores? Can these replace TAPMI scores?

Yes, all short listed applicants are required to take aptitude test and attend interview and group discussion. Candidates who have appeared for CAT or GMAT (2006-2007) will be given additional consideration in selection based on their score.

STUDENT's ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE EVALUTION

How my academic performance in various courses of study is is evaluated. What is the nature of tests/examinations?

Learning, teaching and evaluation are closely interrelated and integrated processes through a continuous mode. Individual faculty members are the primary drivers of the processes. Evaluation events are multiple and include written analysis of cases both individually and in groups, students’ presentations, quizzes, both surprise and announced, assignments and essays on specific topics, mid-term test, final examination, popular management book reviews and summary, etc. Thus there is no single used to evaluate the performance of the students.

Are certain undergraduate degrees or business courses required for admission?

Students at TAPMI-CEE are valued for their academic diversity; no particular undergraduate degree is required for EPGDM admission

If I am not accepted into the programme, can I receive feedback on my application?

You may request feedback from our programme facilitation office to help you identify your strengths and weaknesses.

I hold a diploma in a technical area of study. I fulfill other requirements for admission to the programme? Am I eligible for admission?

If your previous education is 10+2+3(Terminal diploma from an AICTE approved Institution), you are eligible to apply, subject to your meeting other requirements.

STUDENT COMMITMEENT

How is the programme compatible with my professional and personal schedule?

The programme calendar is final once classes begin, so you can plan your professional and personal schedules around those dates without any class conflicts.

How much time will the Programme require outside of the classroom?

The programme requires a serious commitment from each participant. The amount of time required to complete the assignments successfully will vary depending upon each individual, course and faculty. In addition to class time, executives

What happens if I miss a class?

We have specific policies and guidelines for students’ attendance, mainly related to work pressures and demands. These are included in the Student Learning Contract that we distribute to the students on the programme induction day.

What happens when my company assigns me on an outstation project for 3 4 months?

We have certain flexibility made available to respond to such contingency. In this case, the student concerned may decide to take a break from the programme and rejoin an appropriate academic term in a future batch. However, it is stipulated that a student can avail of this privilege only once during the programme. A student should complete all the requirements of the programme within 3 years of his joining the Institute.

What software proficiency is required?

EPGDM students must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

I am well employed in a good company. I would like to take advantage of a bank loan to finance my education? Does TAPMI have an arrangement with any bank for this purpose? If, not can TAPMI help me?

TAPMI has recently concluded an association with a leading private sector bank to extend loan facility to interested EPGDM students.
